It gives a detailed description of dragons in each region of the world as if they really existed! Many of the pages are very interactive, such as a note that you can decipher with the dragon language alphabet they give, as well as riddles, and spots where they provide a "dragon skin" specimen that you can actually feel, which is actually kinda trippy, and interactive stages between embryo development within the eggs. You read the reviews and they say "beautiful pictures" "everything you want to know about..." But the never tell you that it has tabs to pull, envelopes to open, dragon skin to feel, etc. well this has all of that!! I bought it just based on the high ratings, but, wow, was I blown away by this book. The level of detail the author went to to make this a convincing "scholarly" read is very impressive. So many interactive points to this book--from the dragon scales to touch and the fold-out maps and secret flaps, I was truly in awe. The vocabulary is very advanced for a 7-yo, but I appreciate that because he can learn new words as we go. Just be advised that a child that young will need an adult to walk through the "old-timey" diction and scholarly ambiance. Not that it can't be enjoyed on its own just for the beautiful illustrations and immersive collections. It's like a museum in a book. My son wanted to create dragons of his own after we read through the first two pages! He carted over to his grandparents' house, and my dad sat there are read the whole thing all night long! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from R. E. -- Must-Have Book for Dragon Lovers of All Ages : I may be a little biased, as I grew up with a copy of this book. Bought a replacement, since my old one was destroyed--if THAT doesn't tell you how great this book is, I dunno what to say. The illustrations are beautiful, I love the interactive bits like the booklet of riddles and samples of shed dragon skins, and although it's supposed to be a serious, nonfiction* naturalist book, there is some tongue-in-cheek humor throughout. Adults will enjoy this along with their children. I will attach a couple of page spreads so you can see how much you NEED this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2017 )

It is fun to read and a lot of work has gone into it to make it interesting. Little envelopes to open, small stuck on pages to show the make up of a dragon and really exquisite drawings. My home is a dragon friendly place so it is the perfect coffee table book to be dipped into. Visitors have been fascinated by it. I am so pleased I bought it.
